Old State Capitol State Historic Site, Springfield, Illinois
Built 1837 - 1840 in the Greek Revival style. It is the site of candidacy announcements by Abraham Lincoln in 1858 and Barack Obama in 2007. Lincoln frequented the building from 1839 until he departed in 1861 to assume the presidency. In 1865, citizens paid their last respects to the assassinated president in Representatives' Hall.
