Missouri Valley Trust Co., St. Joseph, Missouri
Originally the Bank of the State of Missouri, this building was constructed in the Renaisssance Revival style in 1860. The Pfeiffer Stone Company of St. Joseph was commissioned to do the stone work. It is believed to be the oldest such building west of the Mississippi.. It Is a significant local example of 19th century commercial architecture, and one of the few surviving examples from the early commercial district of St. Joseph. It also played an important part in the development of St. Joseph as a regional center and a stopping point on the westward migration routes.
