Doors & Doorways
Door of Spangler/Metz Blacksmith Shop, Richland County, Wisconsin
Merwin Hendricks built this blacksmith shop in the early 1920s and his father, Monroe, operated it until he died in 1926. Merwin continued the business in the new building until 1938 when it was sold to S.H. ‘Herb’ Spangler. Spangler did general blacksmith work such as shoeing horses, rebuilding wagons, making wagon hubs and sharpening plow shares and sickles. The Gillingham Post Office operated out of this bleacksmith shop for six months in 1948. In 1957, a carpenter/cabinetmaker began operating out of the building.
