For anyone who is interested in seeing cranberries harvested, one of the best opportunities in the Warrens area is the Wetherby Cranberry Company's Public Harvest Day. It is held annually on the first Saturday of October -- rain or shine -- from 9 a.m. to noon. The Wetherby marsh harvests cranberries both for fresh fruit and processed fruit use, which involves different methods. Dating back to 1905, the Wetherby Cranberry Company is owned by the Jim & Nodji Van Wychen Family. Nodji and her daughters lead tours and answer your questions, while Jim, son Henry and son-in-law Mike demonstrate mechanical raking and the newer harrow harvester. Afterward you can buy fresh cranberries (packaged on site) and even cranberry wine that Jim and Mike make in their small winery. Before leaving Warrens, you'll want to stop by the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center for a tour of their exhibit hall and a cranberry ice cream cone! For more information, visit
